Grace mercy and peace to you from God, our Father resurrected, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, amen, froma, Luke's, John Luke's, Gospel, chapter 24, verses, 30 and 31.

When Jesus was that table with them, he took the bread and blessed to show it and gave it to them and their eyes were opened.

They recognized him and he vanished from their sight.

As far the word of God that guides our meditation.

For today.

Most of us know this prayer well come Lord Jesus, be our guest and let these gifts to us be blessed amen.

Refer to this as the common table, prayer prayer that has been handed down from generation to generation.

For probably all has there been English settlers here in this country, like many things we know well, we sometimes say this prayer on autopilot.

Don't really think about what we're saying or aim for how different what our real times be.

If we didn't forget that we had invited the Lord Jesus to be there with us how different what are the high speeds remember that jesus promised to dwell not only with us in Isreal, but with all with us all our days.

The high point of today's Gospel is a meal that Jesus had with two of his followers a meal that changed these two disciples forever.

It seems that meals don't have the same significance today is what they once had back in Jesus day.

Back then, the meal together was was honor privilege.

It was a fellowship that a common belief acceptance one another, sharing a meal meant sharing your very life with one of them with another person when the host blessed the bread, everyone who hated that bread shared in the hosts blessing.

When you shared a meal with someone, you were part of that person's family.

That might can understand why the Pharisees always made such a big stink when Jesus would have a meal with instead round at the table, with those tax collectors and prostitutes and sinners or all sorts.

By doing so, it appeared to them that well, Jesus wasn't maybe the holy man that they thought he was that maybe he's trying to make sin not such a big deal, but what they didn't understand.

What they didn't take into account was the change of heart that Jesus had proclaimed that Jesus had accomplished in the lives of these people.

They called him called sinners into his holy family and reconciled.

That was gone a great example, the change of heart that Jesus brings us is a kiyose who, after his conversation of the Lord, said to the Lord behold, half of my goods that give to the poor and, if I have thrown at anyone of anything power store For fold, Jesus always shared the good news of the kingdom of before we shared me over them.

If you call all to leave their lives of sin and to live a new life, I think life bound by the grace of God that clunked Christ and his promises and began a new life, a fellowship with Lord called them to repentance and to believe this was The standard Jesus established and it stills, and so it's the same standard we still follow as we start people the things of God before we invite them to his being to fellowship in the Lord's Supper.

The meal described in the gospel text today is very, very similar before Jesus reclined, the table with the two disciples of a man are heading to Emmaus.

He prepared their hearts by opening the scriptures to them on their journey from Jerusalem.

He spoke the word to them.

So that they would repent and believe for those two disciples had lost all their hopes and dreams.

When Christ was crucified Good Friday, they were trying to make sense out of everything that had happened, because it didn't line up with who they thought the Christ should be, and then, on top of all that they've had the news of a resurrected Jesus for the women.

Had the tomb one of the disciples then Cleophus expressed his confusion to this mysterious third person knows Jesus would join them as they want Jesus our Cleophas said regarding for Jesus.

We had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel, but it was a different kind of redemption that he was expecting, and so Christ's love and chastisem*nt and correction for those two disciples is just as useful to them as it is to us today.

Jesus says o foolish ones and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken.

Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory even after his resurrection? Jesus still points to the authority and the truth of the Scriptures.

As the source kind of who, we should be a lot of what we should rely on to reveal who he is for, he says in beginning with Moses and all the prophets, Jesus interpreted to them in all the Scriptures.

The things concerning himself to shared with the kids here this was the process by which Jesus starts, putting all the puzzle pieces together and now that's it's not a picture of earthly glory, but it's a picture of divine suffering and death on the cross and victory in The empty tomb Jesus used the scriptures to show that the crucifixion was not the end of the hopes and dreams of his followers, but rather was the plan of protection.

In fact, it's the main point of God's plan of salvation for us for its own.

Look at the crucifixion that the work of redemption happens.

It's all the cross, where Christ took upon himself the wrath God that we so deserted.

If there were not a person fiction, there will be no redemption if their word of crucifixion, there could also be no resurrection for Christ or for us.

Without the death and the resurrection Jesus, we would still be guilty of our sins and doomed to an eternity in hell before Jesus explained the scriptures to the disciples.

They believe that Jesus suffering and death contradicted Jesus claimed to be the Messiah Redeemer of Israel, but now they began to understand that suffering and death were the wave God's Redemption and their hearts began to burn with a new enlightened faith, if probably took a couple of Hours forth this curtain to walk the seven miles or so from Jerusalem to Emmaus.

That would, I would imagine that the time flew by as Jesus carefully and masterfully told the scriptures and unpacked and put a holes puzzle pieces together and all too quickly.

Then the German came to an end, and so those two babe Jesus to utter them saying come Lord Jesus be our guest.

I stay with us: eat with us, have a time of peace and fellowship and life Jesus had been teaching them all along the way in row, but they still hadn't recognized him for who he was, and now this meal sacrum.

You gave him the opportunity to teach them that he is present until the eh, a new powerful way, and so Jesus took the bread and blessed it broke it and gave it to them and as he did, this, the disciples eyes were opened and they recognized him.

Could imagine their their joy their jubilation? It is Jesus here he is.

He had been walking with us the whole way.

How could we have not recognized him and then before they could say? Another word Jesus banished, came and visited her, for he had also revealed how we will participate in that Easter resurrection, joy and power invisible yet present in the breaking of the brain.

Jesus.

Invisible presence affected these two disciples they had to do to return to Jerusalem immediately.

Even though height was falling and the road could be dangerous, but they had to return to share their experiences with Jesus other followers, so it is with us as Jesus disciples as well.

His presence in our lives gives us a strong desire to receive more of God's gifts to study God's Word at our home with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to give us our own Emmaus experience.

If you will, as we now see and understand the work of Jesus in so many different ways, see if we're running down where we never once his on scene.

Christmas presents goes with us as we shared the gifts of his word and grace with those who do not yet know him.

The teaching of the road on the road to Emmaus assures us that the crucifixion was always part of God's plan to redeem us.

The revelation that the meal and may assures us that the Christ who died for us on the cross is now risen.

He is alive, and Jesus disappearance from the Meno shows us that crucified and living Christ was is and will always be with us until the day he brings us to be with him in her heavenly home.

So until that day, dear friends in Christ, abide in the Lord abiding His grace and invite him often to come.

Lord Jesus be our guest and live with all the gifts that he blesses us with, and these gifts be blessed amen.
